The fifth match of the five-match Test series was played between India and England in Birmingham. In the fourth innings of this test match, India had set a target of 378 runs for England to win. This target was achieved by the England team based on Joe Root's unbeaten 142 runs and Bairstow's unbeaten 114 runs for the loss of three wickets. Ollie Pope was caught by Bumrah at the hands of Pant on zero, while Liege was run out after scoring 56 runs. Joe Root completed his 28th Test century off 136 balls. On the other hand, Jani Bairstow completed the 12th century of his Test career in 138 balls. Apart from this, Joe Root scored an unbeaten 142 while Bairstow scored an unbeaten 114 and shared an unbeaten 269-run partnership for the fourth wicket to give his team a 7-wicket win.
Team India's second innings, half-centuries of Pujara and Pant
Shubman Gill was disappointed in the second innings as well and was caught by Anderson at the hands of Jack Crowley for 4. Hanuma Vihari's bat did not get runs even in the second innings and he was out on the ball of Broad after scoring 11 runs. In the second innings, Virat Kohli played an innings of 20 runs and was caught by Root on the ball of Ben Stokes. Cheteshwar Pujara, after scoring 66, was caught by Lees off Stuart Broad. Continuing his first innings form, Rishabh Pant completed his half-century in the second innings with the help of 7 fours in 76 balls. Shreyas Iyer failed to make a big score in the second innings and was caught by Matthew Pats on his delivery for just 19 runs.
